Wheel is slouching in the window of the captain’s office-cum-lounge, which commands a view of the warp nacells and some other ships in the convoy.
Not sure of the canonicity of a cocktail bar in the Captain’s lounge on a starship, given that you don’t really want the captain found drunk in charge of a warp drive and phasers, and in real-world submarines, American boats are ‘dry’. On the other hand we have the precedent of Pike having a Martini in ‘The Menagerie’ and Kirk a Finagle’s Folly in ‘The Ultimate Computer’.
The idea I was trying to convey here (not very well) is that to Captain Zhou, Pike’s being American is as notable without being exceptional as Checkov’s being Russian is to Kirk.
With apologies to Gene Roddenberry and the many professionals and amateurs who have created the Star Trek universe over the years.
