40.1 Lt Farid Singh is talking to the ship via his suit communicator. Behind him casualties are being treated and Ensign Dev Null is assisting one of the Prospero’s engineers move some equipment.

Singh: We are gathering the survivors in the rec deck—it’s the largest space we can keep powered up with our portable equipment.
Singh: Restoring power is going to be difficult at best—most of the command circuitry is utterly fried, destroyed as thoroughly as the library computer was, sir.

40.2 Lt Singh listens to the response from the Mumbai.

Communicator: Good work. We are about ready to start——
Communicator: What the hell? Shields! SHIELDS!
Singh: Commander?

40.3 The communicator emits an ear-piercing shriek.

Communicator: EEEEEEEE
Singh: Commander!!
